I think there is a big difference between the cost of living in Poland for a few months and going there as a tourist. As a tourist you may benefit in the exchange rate. Poland won't be cheap if you stick to the touristy places to eat and drink because they are expensive compared to other places to eat, but if you go to milk bars etc you will do a lot better. I paid €10 for dinner and a drink a few times in touristy areas, the service wasn't great and neither was the food. If you are working in Poland what a lot of people earn is very little compared to the prices in shops, you may need to work two jobs to have enough money.

Food is cheap, especially when you are a tourist (or are there for some months) from the eurozone. As the guy above said, in big cities like Warsaw there are cheap places where you can eat called milk bars (bar mleczny) and pierogarnias, where you can eat the famous pierogi. Prices: from 5 to 20 PLN.

Beer: a bottle at a market - PLN 4-5, a pint at a pub - PLN 8-10 A loaf of bread - PLN 1-3 A single public transport ticket - PLN 2-3
