you cant just go and live there. you have to apply for polish citizenship. you could just buy a ticket, adn stay after your visa expires, but then you might have trouble buying a house unless you can go live with someone where. even then you wont have all the government benifits, because youll be an illegal citizen.

On your passport you can stay for the usual length of a "tourist stay" (up to three months). If you wish to live in Poland, you will have to obtain a permanent residence permit. That is, if you are from a non-Schengen country; people from countries - members of the Schengen Treaty can take residence in Poland without any extra documents.

If you are from EU ,yes If you are non-Eu citizen then you will need either visa (shorter stay) or resident permit(permanent stay)

If you are not from the EU countries, you can go to Poland and live there for a while just with the passport. You will get tourist visa good for 3 months, then you need to cross the border to any country (Germany, Czech Republic) so you can get another 3 months tourist visa. Do it couple of times to see if you like to live in Poland. If you want to live in Poland legally, you need to apply for permanent residents status, social security, driver license and all other documents required by law.
